A manufacturing company invests in a website redesign. The agency delivers. The site looks clean, the copy is reasonable, and for a few months it reflects the business accurately. Then the business moves on. A new product line is added. An ISO certification is renewed with an expanded scope. Capacity increases. A second facility opens.
The website does not move with it. Twelve months later, a procurement manager visiting the site sees a snapshot of the business as it was, not as it is. The information they need to shortlist a supplier is either missing, vague or out of date. They move on.

New content is added when the business enters a new sector, targets a new buyer type, or wants to be found for a capability it already has but has not yet documented online.
Each of these changes is relatively small. Over four to six cycles, they compound. A site that once required a buyer to call before they could evaluate the supplier becomes one that allows a procurement manager to do most of their assessment without any contact at all.

How to think about the choice
If your site has structural or technical problems that prevent it from functioning properly, a redesign is the right starting point. Once those foundations are in place, the question is not when to redesign again. The question is what planned improvement cycle will keep the site working as a sales asset between now and the next time the business changes significantly.
